Household Pets & Enclosures
Enclosures are purchasable habitats that let you keep small animals in your home. Each Enclosure costs $2,500. To get a pet, purchase a Household Pet from the Pet Shop or find one throughout Riverton. It will appear in your inventory, but you can't do anything with it until you purchase an Enclosure.
Each Enclosure holds up to 4 animals. You can own a maximum of 30 animals total across all enclosures.
Health and Mood
Every animal has Health and Mood that slowly decays over time. Visit your Enclosures regularly to keep your Household Pets happy. Once an Enclosure reaches Level 1, you can interact with your pets to restore their Health and Mood.
| Action | Unlocked At | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Feed | Level 1 | Restores Health |
| Pet | Level 2 | Restores Mood |
| Play | Level 2 | Restores Mood |
If your pet's Health reaches 0, your Household Pet is considered Lost. Lost pets appear greyed out and can no longer be cared for. They can only be laid to rest, and you will no longer have access to them forever.
Enclosure Upgrades
Upgrading your enclosure improves conditions for your animals and unlocks new features:
| Level | Upgrade | Cost | Benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Basic Habitat | — | View only, cannot interact with your Household Pets at all |
| 1 | Feeding Station | $500 | Unlocks Feed to improve health |
| 2 | Comfort Corner | $1,000 | Unlocks Pet and Play interactions to improve mood |
| 3 | Climate Control | $2,000 | Reduces decay rate by 25% |
| 4 | Enrichment Toy | $3,500 | Passive mood boost on every visit |
| 5 | Deluxe Habitat | — | Further decay reduction (40% total), habitat styling themes, unlocks Bonding |
A higher-level Enclosure reduces decay but does not eliminate stress. Incompatible animals should still be separated for ideal Bonding and maintenance.
Compatibility & Stress
Not all animals get along! If an animal is housed with an incompatible species, it will become stressed, shown by a warning beneath its stats. Stressed animals lose Health and Mood significantly faster than normal. When building a mixed Enclosure, consider each animal's temperament:
- Rodents like Hamsters, Chinchillas, and Guinea Pigs are stressed by reptiles and predators.
- Amphibians like Toads, Tree Frogs, and Axolotls are stressed by reptiles and predators.
- Reptiles like Leopard Geckos, Iguanas, and Turtles are generally calm but stress amphibians.
- Predators like Snakes and Ferrets stress most other animals.
- Birds like Pigeons, Peacocks, and Geese are social with each other but stressed by predators.
- Solitary animals like Tarantulas and Opossums are stressed by nearly everyone and are best kept alone.
Bonding
Once an Enclosure reaches Level 5, a Bond stat becomes visible for each animal. Bond grows over time through regular care and interaction. Reaching maximum Bond rewards a special Badge that will appear on your public profile for each animal you befriend.
Moving & Rehoming Pets
- Store: Returns the pet to your inventory so you can place it in a different Enclosure.
- Rehome: Permanently removes the pet and gives you a small amount of currency as a rehoming fee.
- Selling: To recoup some cost of the adoption fee, return the Household Pet to your Inventory and Sell from your Inventory.
- Lay to Rest: Lost pets can only be laid to rest and cannot be stored or rehomed.
Deleting an Enclosure
An enclosure can only be removed once it is completely empty. Store or rehome all pets first, then the Delete Enclosure option will become enabled. You will not be refunded for the price of the Enclosure or any upgrades made to the Enclosure, and you will need to repurchase a new Enclosure if you ever need one again.
