i remember playing a lot of persistent browser-based games and a lot of virtual pet sites. i tried a lot of MUDs that i came across as i was coming up on the internet! (lunatix online sticks out in my mind!) i’ve always been a fan of media that immerses yourself in a world, and playing along is the best part. i wanted to capture that feeling with riverton. in my experience on a lot of virtual pet/simulation sites, there’s either been an emphasis on players having to team up with one another, battle other players, or requires some level of working with others to unlock aspects of the game.
